Syndicate Bank

One of the oldest banks still in operation in India, Syndicate Bank is one of the major banking companies of India. Founded close to a century ago in 1925, the bank was then known as the Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate Limited. It was set up by T.M.A. Pai, Upendra Pai and VamanKudva in the Udipi region of Karnataka state. Though set up with the intention ofproviding financial support to the weavers in the local area, the bank quickly expanded its operations both in terms of the area it covered and the range of services it provided. In the year 1969 it saw its ownership being transferred into the hands of the Government of India when it was nationalized. Over the years the bank has merged with numerous banks and shifted its center of operations from the Udipi region to Manipal, Karnataka. The bank is also behind three rural banks known as Prathama Bank, Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank and Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank. As of the present date, the bank has over 3,500 branches spread all over India. It also has overseas offices in London, Doha and Muscat. The bank offer services like Consumer and Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Investment Management, Private Equity, Mortgage and Credit Cards. The bank has been recognized with the ‘Best Bank Award’ among all banks by the Government of India. The bank operates on a revenue stream of about INR 6,913 crores or USD 1.1 billion. It has its total assets valued at a sum of about INR 2,99,073 crores or USD 47 billion.
