Customers of United Bank of India are provided with the facility to transfer funds electronically to either accounts in the same bank or to accounts in other banks. This is a result of the banks participation in RBI operated national payment settlement platforms like the Immediate Payment System (IMPS), Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT). One can conduct electronic fund transfers on this platform by providing the recipient’s account number and the IFSC Code of his/her bank branch. IFSC or Indian Financial System Code is a unique identification code that is allotted to each and every bank branch in the country by the Reserve Bank of India, the governing body for the banking sector. This code acts as a safety check and ensures that money is transferred to the right account without any scope for error. The code also helps the RBI monitor the transactions being conducted on its platforms.

United Bank of India IFSC code takes the form of a 11-character alphanumeric code. This code is composed of three parts. While the first part indicates the name of the bank that the branch belongs to, the concluding part forms the branch code that identifies the branch in question among numerous others. UNITED BANK OF INDIA

United Bank of India

United Bank of India is one among the major banking and financial services companies operating in India. Its ownership lies in the hands of the Government of India and it is thus a public-sector company. The bank saw its inception in the year 1960 as a result of the merger of four banks operating in the region of Bengal i.e. the merger of the Comilla Banking Corporation, Bengal Central Bank, Comilla Union Bank and the Hooghly Bank. Their merger was orchestrated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the resulting bank was named the United Bank of India. The bank subsequently saw mergers with the Cuttack Bank and the Tezpur Industrial Bank. The bank however still functioned as a private entity until it was taken over by the Government of India in the year 1969 as part of the first wave of the government’s bank nationalization program. Since then the bank has seen consistent growth in both its net value and its scale of operations. The bank today operates a network of about 36 regional offices and 2054 branches all over the country. However, as a reflection of its origins, the bank still has the strongest presence in the eastern part of the country. The bank till date continues to function from its headquarters in the eastern city of Kolkata. The bank offers both banking and its allied financial services to its customers, these include Consumer Banking, Corporate Banking, Insurance, Investment Banking, Invest Management, Private Equity and Mortgage. The bank has recently seen an influx of more than INR 1,000 crore from the government through institutional placement. The bank has assets to the tune of about INR 1,23,027 crores or USD 19 billion. The company is listed for trading on both the prominent exchanges of the country, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
