South Indian Bank

One among the prominent private sector banks operating in the subcontinent, South Indian Bank is headquartered in the city of Thrissur, Kerala. The bank commenced operations in the banking and financial sector in the year by a group of 44 men from Thrissur. The bank sought to exploit the business opportunity posed by the merchants in and around Thrissur and replace individual money lenders. The bank’s scale of operations grew steadily with a consistent increase in their physical presence which soon expanded beyond the confines of Thrissur and Kerala. It was in fact the first private sector bank to be recognized as a ‘Scheduled Bank’ by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Further it also became the first bank to open a currency chest in India and provide NRI banking services. Today, the bank boasts of a network of about 850 branches, 4 service branches and 20 regional offices. In addition to these it also has a chain of 48 extension counters, 1,320 ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) and 17 Cash Deposit Machines. Admirably, the bank pursues the spread of financial literacy through relevant initiatives and financial literacy centers in about 100 rural locations and fifteen urban locations.

The banks range of services includes everything from Consumer Banking, Corporate Banking, NRI Banking to Insurance and Capital Markets. The bank has a net income of INR 233.76 crores. This is sourced from a revenue stream of about INR 2,642 crores.
