Punjab National Bank

Punjab National Bank is a government-owned bank providing banking and its allied financial services to customers in India. The bank holds the distinction of being one of the oldest banks to be operating in India. Punjab National Bank first opened its doors to consumers on 19 May 1984 in Lahore, which today lies in Pakistan. The bank was founded by several leaders of the Swadeshi Movement with the intention of furthering the economic interests of the country. It was renowned for being the first Indian bank to start completely on Indian capital as opposed to other banks of the time which were funded by European interests. The banks past customers include Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. The bank expanded operations and merged with several banks until its nationalization in the year of 1963 along with 13 other private banks. The bank has continued to grow to its present network of 6,937 branches and 10,681 ATM’s serving more than 80 million customers across 764 cities. The bank also has operations in countries other than India, with offices in UK, Hong Kong, Kowloon, Dubai and Kabul, representative offices in Almaty, Shanghai, Oslo, Sydney, Nepal and Bhutan.

The bank offers services like consumer banking, corporate banking, insurance, investment banking, mortgage loans, private banking, private equity and wealth management to all of its customers.
