Indian Bank IFSC Code

The Indian Financial System Code or IFSC code is unique identification number that is assigned to every bank branch in the country in order to identify that specific branch when conducting electronic transfer of funds. It in essence acts as an identifier for all bank branches providing banking and allied financial services in the country. It is common knowledge that all electronic transfers of funds in the country take placed through platforms like the Immediate Payment System (IMPS), Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT). Herein while conducting transactions in any of the above platforms it is necessary to provide not only the receiver’s bank name and account number but also the IFSC code that pertains to that specific branch where his/her account is located. To illustrate this codes function, it acts a secondary identifier of the bank account when monies are received, here while IFSC code specifies the branch, the account number specifies one account in that branch in which the incoming funds are deposited. These IFSC codes are available to customers either in their passbook or in the public domain i.e. in the websites of the respective banks or on various third-party sites.
