These IFSC codes are assigned to each individual bank branch in the nation by the governing and regulatory body for the banking sector in India, the Reserve bank of India (RBI). These are in the form of 11-character alphanumerical codes that act as unique identification numbers for bank branches much like the UIDAI backed Aadhar venture.
