Bank of Baroda IFSC code

Bank of Baroda is part of various electronic payment settlement platforms regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the country’s top banking oversight body. As part of this platform, the RBI assigns to each participating bank branch a unique 11-digit alphanumeric code known as the Indian Financial System Code (IFSC). In order to transfer funds through any of the aforementioned payment platforms, it is necessary to provide not only the account number of the person to whom the funds are to be transferred but also the IFSC code of the branch where the beneficiary’s account is registered. This acts as a confirmation to incoming funds of the right receiver. Further this system allows the RBI to monitor financial transactions on a macro level and identify financial trends and irregularities.

These codes usually follow a generic format set by the RBI. In any sample RBI assigned IFSC code, the first four characters are alphabets that identify the bank that the branch is a part of. In the instant case the characters for a Bank of Baroda branch would be ‘BARB’. The subsequent character is a ‘0’ reserved for future use while the concluding six characters form the unique code corresponding to that specific branch.
